Moving In The Winter – What You Need to Know

Have you come to the decision to start a move this winter?
Constantly changing weather, roads and driveways covered in ice/snow are some of the obstacles you will most likely run into when you decide to move in during these chilly months. We at Augusta Movers are here to help you with a safe winter move!

The winter season is commonly considered “off-season” for moving companies, but this works in your favor. Oftentimes, you will likely have the wiggle room to finish your move a little later than normal, giving you more time. You also get more of an option when it comes to choosing a time slot to move. Regardless of these benefits, however, we recommend that you always book ahead of time to make sure that you get the date you want.

Look Out For The Weather

This is seen as very important, and in some cases obvious, but you need to keep an eye on the weather that comes your way before moving. Movers will do everything in their power to complete your moving process as scheduled, as they have trucks that are fully prepared to travel in those sorts of conditions, but if you start to feel uncomfortable then it might be time to reschedule. Moving companies will be more than glad to move your date to another time in order to prioritize your safety and theirs.

Protect Your Floors

Making sure your floors are fully protected during a move is important. Most companies will provide you with floor runners to cover certain areas of your home, but it’s best to be safe and make sure you have floor covers as well. This additional layer is always considered beneficial.

Clear The Front Of Your House

Both the pick-up and drop-off locations should be cleared properly, as to reduce the risk of any injuries during the moving process. All snow in the way should be removed promptly, as movers don’t usually have a clear line of sight when large items are being carried in and out of the home/truck. Making sure salt has been put down to get rid of slippery surfaces is also extremely important, as it will benefit both the movers and the items you hold near and dear to your heart!

Make Sure The Utilities Work In Your New Place

When the utilities in your new home do not work in the summer, it can be a pain, but in the winter? It’s a downright safety issue! It is best to schedule your utilities to be turned on, as well as make sure that they are working with 100% efficiency and functionality. Chances are everything will run smoothly, but it is best to double check as one mistake could lead to a lot of problems down the road!

Prepare Some Hot Drinks!

Okay… we know that this step isn’t really necessary, but what’s better than having a nice hot cup of tea, coffee or cocoa after a long day of hard work and stressors? These hot drinks will warm up your body, and give yourself a feeling of comfort in your brand new home.
