Things You Cannot Pack During a Move

While hiring residential movers is a great way to avoid any of the hassle and stress of a moving process, there are certain types of items that you are not able to pack. These are the items that most companies will refuse to move, as they are either too difficult to move, or pose a threat or danger to the moving truck/people driving said truck. Some of these items are also things we just don’t recommend to move, as they are likely integral to the process as a whole. To learn about what some of these items are, check out the list that we here at Augusta Movers have come up with.

Items You Are Not Allowed To Move

We would first like to go over the most important ones that you cannot move by almost all circumstances, as they are dangerous and pose a risk to everyone involved. These things include but are not limited to:

  • Chemicals such as acids or gasoline
  • Poisons
  • Pool chemicals
  • Motor oil
  • Weed killers and other pesticides
  • Ammonia
  • Lamp oil
  • Kerosene
  • Aerosols
  • Nail polish bottles (as well as remover)
  • Paint/paint thinner
  • Propane
  • Cleaners
  • Batteries (household or automotive)
  • Fireworks
  • Matches and lighters

Since all of these items are either flammable, corrosive, explosive or all of the above, they are not permitted to be moved. Not only do these items pose a risk to the safety of the truck and its drivers, but it also risks the safety and integrity of your other items. Many of these items, when moved around in a truck, can leak and get onto other precious valuables. In every situation imaginable, these items are a bad idea to move and will more than likely not be allowed inside a moving truck when working with certain companies.

Things You Probably Shouldn’t Bring

Although these items are different from the ones above in that they are technically allowed, our team advises that you don’t due to their importance.

The items that we don’t recommend packing and moving due to their chance of getting spoiled include:

  • Produce or any perishable food item
  • Plants
  • Wines (specifically if you’re a collector)
  • Fridge & freezer food
  • Pets

Other items that we believe hold importance during a move (that should be kept on you rather than packed) include:

  • Phone/address records
  • Moving documents
  • Medical records
  • Plane tickets
  • High value items such as jewellery/gold/silver
  • Car keys & house keys
  • Photo ID’s
  • License
